Best way to move from XF 2.2.8 Patch 1 to 2.3.4...

Hi all.. We've got an older installation of XF that really hasn't been touched in about 2.5 years give or take. It's time to bring it up to date and I'm fishing for the best approach here. I ran across the doc someone posted on moving from 2.2 to 2.3 with good stuff in it but I guess I'm wondering in my particular case if it would be prudent to jump from 2.2.8 to a few versions newer than that and keep following that till I get through the 13 revisions between my 2.2.8 Patch 1 and 2.3.4...
