Inline Code Tag Doesn't Span Across Text with Line Breaks

If I select text that includes line breaks and format it as inline code:

First line of text
Second line of text
Third line of text

For some reason the <code> tag doesnt span beyond any line breaks. Is there a way to force this?

It separates each line like so:


Preferred:
<code class="bbCodeInline">First line of text
Second line of text
Third line of text</code>

I know I can toggle BB code and modify the text like this, but I would like it to default to...
