Info on imports from various cms

I have to try to import an old forum from phpnuke to phpbb and then to xenforo.
I would like to do some tests on another domain so I would like to understand some things.
If I upload the database of the old forum to a new domain and then launch the import, will it work or will it refer to the old domain?
